Rufus Wainwright has baby with Leonard Cohen’s daughter

Rufus Wainwright has become a father.

The gay singer-songwriter announced on his website today that he and Lorca Cohen, daughter of Leonard Cohen, had become “proud parents”.

Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen was born on February 2nd in Los Angeles, California.

Wainwright wrote: “The little angel is evidently healthy, presumably happy and certainly very, very beautiful. Daddy #1 would like to offer everyone a digital cigar and welcome the little lady in with a French phrase from his favorite folk song, À La Claire Fontaine: ‘Il y a longtemps que je t’aime, jamais je ne t’oublierai.’”

The baby wil be brought up by both of her parents, the Guardian reports, as well as Wainwright’s partner and “deputy dad” Jorn Weisbrodt.

Last year, Wainwright told the Guardian he wanted a baby.

He said: “We’re exploring all options, sort of, at the moment and it’s very top secret but it’s certainly something I’m thinking of.”

The singer then went on to tell an anecdote about Leonard and Lorca Cohen.
